About Indore City

Indore is a major commercial hub located in the central region of India, in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It has a rich history, dating back to the Maratha period when it was established as a market on the Narmada River Valley road. The city was named after the Indreshwar temple, built in 1741. In the Holkar dynasty, the ruler Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar reconstructed and built temples and ghats all over India, earning Indore the nickname "Ahilya Nagari." Today, Indore is the largest and most densely populated city in Madhya Pradesh and a Tier-2 city in India. The city is home to over 400 industries in the Pithampur Industrial area and is known as the "Detroit of India" due to its strong commercial vehicle manufacturing sector. Indore also boasts Madhya Pradesh Stock Exchange, the third oldest stock exchange in India, and Asia's largest automobile testing track, NATRAX.

In the Maratha period, Bajirao Peshwa gained control over this region and installed his general Malharrao Holkar as the subedar, who laid the foundation of the Holkar dynasty. The ruler of Holkar dynasty, Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar reconstructed and built temples and ghats all over India. Due to these virtues, Indore is also known as Ahilya Nagari. The Krishnapura Chhatris, built on the banks of the Kanh River, are dedicated to the Holkar rulers. In terms of population, it is the largest and most densely populated city of Madhya Pradesh. It comes under Tier-2 cities in India. There are more than 400 industries in Pithampur Industrial area and more than 100 industries of international cooperation.

As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Smart City Mission," Indore has been selected to be developed into a smart city. It has consistently ranked as the cleanest city in India for five consecutive years in the Swachh Survekshan and aims to continue this trend. Indore is also a leader in water management and is known for its food, with Chappan Dukan being a famous food market. Furthermore, Indore is a hub of education, with institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM Indore) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Indore) located in the city. Indore has come a long way since its beginnings as a commercial market and has established itself as a major industrial and educational center in India.
